Every week, the Cincinnati Zoo harvests over 1,000 heads of lettuce from their own hydroponic farm. That lettuce travels through the commissary, sorted and packed by hand, before feeding the zoo’s most beloved residents—including Fiona the Hippo.
In this episode of PLAY IT, we traced the lettuce’s journey from leaf to lunch. Along the way, we captured the subtle hum of grow lights, the snap of fresh lettuce, the clatter of packing crates, and—best of all—the unmistakable crunch of Fiona enjoying her greens.
We turned those sounds into a one-of-a-kind musical composition, celebrating the care, sustainability, and wonder behind every meal at the Cincinnati Zoo.
